The devActivity Peer Recognition Awards are a powerful tool for cultivating a positive and supportive work environment within your team. Inspired by the team's commitment to regular peer feedback and acknowledgment, this feature encourages team members to recognize and appreciate each other's contributions.

How does it work?

  1. Weekly or Monthly Notifications: Team members receive regular notifications via email or Slack to assign a Peer Recognition Award to a colleague.

  2. Simple Nomination Process: Clicking on a colleague's name opens a pre-filled confirmation form with an optional comments section.

  3. One Award per Period: Each team member can assign a Peer Recognition Award to only one contributor per period (weekly or monthly).

Accessing the Peer Recognition Feature

You can submit a Peer Recognition Award directly from the dedicated Peer Recognition page within the devActivity app.

Configuration

Only Org Admins can configure the Peer Recognition Awards feature. Navigate to Settings > General > Peer Recognition to adjust the following:

  • Iteration Periods: Select either weekly or monthly for the frequency of recognition requests.

  • Disable Feature: You can disable the Peer Recognition feature if it's not a good fit for your team or project. This might be the case for most open-source projects.

Recommendations

  • Stimulate Feedback: Actively encourage team members to utilize the Peer Recognition Awards. Discuss the importance of regular feedback and recognition during team retrospectives.

  • Slack Integration: Set up Slack integration to streamline the nomination process and receive requests directly within your team's communication channel.

  • Reward Recognition: Consider increasing the XP reward for challenges related to the number of received Recognition Awards to encourage active participation.

  • Disable if Unnecessary: If you don't want to send regular Peer Recognition requests or have other methods for gathering team feedback, disable the feature from the Settings menu.

Benefits of Peer Recognition

  • Positive Reinforcement: Provides a simple and efficient way to express gratitude and acknowledge colleagues' efforts.

  • Team Culture: Fosters a culture of appreciation and collaboration, promoting a positive and supportive work environment.

  • Data-Driven Insights: Tracks recognition trends and identifies top contributors, providing valuable data for performance reviews and team dynamics.

By implementing the Peer Recognition Awards feature, you can foster a more engaged, motivated, and collaborative team within devActivity.
